How to Use the iPhone X – A How-to Guide
The most exciting smartphone currently on the market is undoubtedly Apple’s iPhone X. Since its release in the fall of 2017, the phone is something fresh and different from the Californian company. Unlike all of its predecessors, the iPhone X lacks the dedicated Home button that’s been so tried and true. Apple chose to do away with this notable iPhone feature and give users a whole new user experience. As a result, it can be tricky figuring out how to do the simplest of tasks when you first start using the device. Here is an essential how-to guide on using the iPhone X. In this guide we will exploring how to check the iPhone X battery percentage, turn off the iPhone X, screenshot the iPhone X, reset the iPhone X and close apps on the iPhone X.
How to Check the Battery Percentage
If you are like most users, you prefer to be able to check the iPhone X battery percentage on your new smartphone. Doing this is different thanks to the edge-to-edge display and the notch, which houses goodies like the TrueDisplay camera and Face ID sensors. Because of the limited space on the top of the iPhone X’s screen as a result, you aren’t able to have the battery percentage show like on older generations of iPhones. Thanks to the notch, the right portion of the upper screen now shows the cellular bars, Wi-Fi connection and battery icon. To check the iPhone battery percentage on the X, all you need to do is swipe down from the top right portion of the screen. This brings up the Control Center, which shows the iPhone X battery percentage in the upper right corner on the iPhone X.
Turning the Phone Off
Turning off older iPhones was a snap and only required that you press and hold the sleep/wake button on the upper right or upper top of the device depending on the version. However, with the iPhone X, that button is strictly used for Siri. If you want to turn off iPhone X, you have to press and hold the side button and the volume up or volume down button simultaneously. From there, swipe the power icon on the screen to turn off iPhone X.
Taking a Screenshot
With no Home button, the method to screenshot the iPhone X is vastly different. However, it’s very easy to do this and simply requires quickly pressing and releasing the side and volume up buttons at the same time. Your screenshot appears at the bottom left of the screen like usual and can also be saved just as it’s done on older iPhones. Getting used to taking a screenshot iPhone X way is easy and will soon become second-nature to you.
To close apps the iPhone X way, it’s certainly different than on older iPhones that sport the Home button. With those phones, all you had to do was double tap the Home button and swipe up on any apps you wanted to close. Obviously, the iPhone X doesn’t have the Home button, so you are forced to follow new steps for closing apps, also known as force quitting apps. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and hold your finger there for half a second. This will close apps the iPhone X way as it shows you the App Switcher with your apps stacked. You should also long-press on the screen. This will bring up a minus icon in the upper left corner of all the apps you have open. To close any of those apps, simply swipe up on it or tap the minus icon.
Using the Phone One Handedly
Apple introduced a feature known as Reachability with its iPhones since the introduction of the iPhone 6 Plus in 2014. This feature shifts the upper portion of the Home screen down to allow users to more easily use the device with one hand. iPhones with a Home button merely needed a double-tap of that button to activate the feature. However, it’s different on the iPhone X because of the lack of a Home button. To activate Reachability, you first have to go into Settings, then General and Accessibility, then toggle on the Reach-ability switch. Afterwards, to use Reachability, swipe down from the bottom edge of the screen.
Hard Resetting the Phone
Unfortunately, there are the occasional times when your iPhone might freeze or act strangely. This requires a hard reset, which forces the device to restart. To do this on the iPhone X, you must press and release the volume up button and then the volume down button before holding the side button until the Apple logo appears on the screen.
